The Reality
Internet
has devastated every invisible wall erected by the great civilizations
and revolutions. Now it's literally possible for a village girl from
Vietnam to appoint a reputed web designer to clone a 'doing good' site,
change hands to a prospective buyer and surely can earn some dollars
during the transition. I am not exaggerating. It's happening right now!
Thousands of projects are being posted every minute; Tens of thousands
of bids are being placed to win them, and hundreds of projects are
awarded every second, with money in advance!
The Need
Freelancers around the
world are making a decent income out there! Believe me. I am one among
them. But the only possible bottle neck in this whole nice thing is
winning your first project. On seeing that you have already won and
completed an assignment, next Boss will be less hesitant in choosing
you among a fifty and odd prospective bidders. You may even get a good
review or reference from the buyer and it will stay there in your
profile page for life. But you still need to win that dream 'first
freelance project'.
How to Write that Killer Bid on Freelance Project
May be you are an
expert in a certain field and having hands on experience in solving
problems in that arena. Unless you win a project, you cannot prove
that. Unless you prove that, you cannot win your first project. Tricky
situation. Isn't it?
But fortunately, an
insider like me will always come out and spill out some tips regarding
the hardships as well as the solutions to overcome this problem. Apply
the following dependable, time tested and logical nuances while posting
an irresistible bid and strike a break-through in the freelancing
career.
Guaranteed Best Practices in Placing a Freelance Bid
* Write a customized
and unique bid for every project you apply. Do not copy-paste a pre
written set of boring sentences, which may fit on any skeleton.
* Write your shortest
possible Bid. Three to five lines is advisable. No buyer have the time
to read a 300 worded article. If he has, he won't be appointing a
freelancer at all to do his jobs!
* Spell check those
five lines. Most of us are seeing the keyboard instead of the monitor
while typing. Can't help it. Correct the typos and misspells before
submitting. Avoid chatting elements like "plz c pmb 4 dtls". Be aware
that you are talking with your future Boss.
* Use at least five
words from the project post. If your Bid is NOT incorporated with even
one word or phrase from the project post, it is obvious that you have
not read the project post at all.
* Tactfully implant in
the Bid, your enthusiasm in obtaining, finishing and earning from this
project. Do not boast. Politely demonstrate. Be positive. Give them a
good word. Or, none at all!
* Address the buyer by
the User name. And the place. For example, "Hello DebieDragon from
Florida," The place may not be in the project post. But dig it out from
the profile. The place always touches the soft corner in a weird way.
* There is no gender
difference in the initial stages. You may not know whether a user is a
Lady or Gentleman until you win and obtain his or her E-mail ID. So,
never use "Sir" or "Madam" in your Bid.
* Phrase at least one
sentence which may state that your quoted price is only indicative and
further negotiable. This will prompt the buyer to contact you through
Private Messaging.
* If you want your
user name and account to be deleted from the freelance site's server,
give your contact information in your Bid. Don't ever do that. Posting
personal information like Phone number and E-mail ID in the Bid is
suicidal.
* After placing your
Bid, don't be passive. Contact the buyer through Personal Messaging
after three days and add another point why you are the better choice
for the project. Meanwhile, do some research about the project. These
will send positive signals to the buyer.
* Always attach a sample work of yours along with the Bid. Work done will speak louder than "Wannabe" boasting.
* Give a link of your
portfolio of published and sold samples. If you haven't any, create
one. My suggestion for Free portfolio web presence is www.freewebs.com
* Clearly plan and
indicate in your Bid the following things. If awarded, what is the time
span you will need, in what phases you will update and what are all the
communication methods you are comfortable with.
* Above all, feel,
just feel that this project is a trend setter in your life and after
finishing this, the reference is going to lead you to greater heights.
This feeling will produce few stunning phrases and force you to write
an irresistible Bid.
If you want to study
how unbeatable bids are being placed, just dig a dozen awarded
projects, read and analyze the won Bid. You may come up with more ideas
other than the ones given in this article. All the very best!
